The Prüm, the second longest river in the Eifel after the Kyll, accompanies the cycle path along its entire length, rarely continuously in the valley, more often with several ascents and descents.
Always in the flow
The cycle path follows the Prüm, known for its rapids ("Irreler Wasserfälle") between Prümzurlay and Irrel, from Stadtkyll to Minden on the Sauer. The section between Prüm and Waxweiler, which follows a former railway line, is especially family-friendly. The other sections are more challenging. Points of interest include the St. Salvator Basilica in Prüm, the interactive Devonium museum in Waxweiler, the Bitburg reservoir at Biersdorf am See, and the meter-high hop plants near Holsthum at the end of August/beginning of September. Here the Enz flows into the Prüm, the Nims joins in Irrel, and a little further downstream the Prüm itself flows in Minden on the German-Luxembourg border into the Sauer, the largest tributary of the Moselle.
