Nims Cycle Path (Weinsheim - Irreler Mühle)
From the source of the Nims to its confluence with the Prüm, the cycle path accompanies the river over long stretches, but also overcomes several hills. Pure nature and cultural enjoyment!
The cycle path has been fully passable since the storm on July 14/15. A detour is set up from Rittersdorf to just before Bitburg-Stahl.
Nature and cultural experience
Meter-high sculptures made of bright red sandstone "emerge" from the fields and offer a small art experience between the Eifel beer metropolis Bitburg and Minden on the Sauer. This section is overall a delight: On the route of a former railway line, you cycle leisurely through the expansive Bitburg estate country with its sun-drenched orchards to Irrel and from there over a short stretch on the Prüm cycle path to the German-Luxembourg border at Minden on the Sauer. The northern part of the path is rather sporty with steeper climbs and descents. From Weinsheim near Prüm it leads over the Schönecker Switzerland to Bitburg.
Sights along the way
- Rittersdorf Castle
- Bitburg/Brewery
- Sandstone sculptures
- Orchards of the Bitburg estate country
- Schönecken castle ruins
- Schönecker Switzerland
TIP: Whether sporty or leisurely – a visit to the Bitburger Experience World is a must!

Roadbook
The Nims originates in the limestone depression near Weinsheim, east of the town of Prüm, and flows into the Prüm near Irrel. The cycle path accompanies the river over long stretches but must overcome several hills because in some narrow valley sections no cycle path has yet been built.
Characteristics
Predominantly paved paths, alongside gravel-surfaced sections, over cycle paths as well as smaller roads; Weinsheim-Lasel (21 km): flat to slightly hilly route, Lasel-Bitburg (24 km): hilly section with steeper climbs and descents, Bitburg-Irreler Mühle (20 km): hardly any inclines on the route, as it follows a former railway line.
