Historie
Am Gipfel des Hochobir befand sich bis zum Jahr 1947 die meteorologische Mess-Station. Seinerzeit die höchstgelegene der habsburgischen Monarchie. Ab dem Jahr 1846 wurden 98 m unter dem Gipfel, im Rainer Schutzhaus, regelmäßig Wetteraufzeichnungen vorgenommen, die von Dir. Johann Prettner (1812–1895) organisiert wurden. Im Jahre 1891 wurde die auf dem noch vorhandenen Metallgerüst montierte, mit Holzwänden eingehauste Wetterstation feierlich eingeweiht. Sie wurde zu Ehren des international bekannten Meteorologen Julius von Hann (1839-1921), der sich auch für den Bau tatkräftig einsetzte, als "Hannawarte" benannt.
Wanderwege zur Warte
Leichter Wanderweg – ca. 1½ Stunden: Von der Eisenkappler Hütte der Markierung 608 folgend, bei der Seealpe nach links abzweigen und der Wegmarkierung 623 folgen. Du passierst die Kalten Quellen (Schautafel) und die Ruinen des Rainer Schutzhauses. Von dort erreichst du in ca. 20 Minuten den Gipfel des Hochobir (2.140 m).
