The churches in northern Moldavia, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, have unique murals inspired by Byzantine art and are well preserved.
They were built from the end of the 15th to the end of the 16th century. The paintings are not only wall decorations, but also completely cover all facades and represent whole cycles of religious themes, whose extraordinary composition, the elegance of the figures and the harmony of the colours blend perfectly into the landscape.
