Querweg Freiburg - Bodensee: Singen - Stahringen
The stage leads from Singen am Hohentwiel to Friedingen Castle, to the picturesque village of Steißlingen and continues with a scenic route past the Homburg ruins to Stahringen, a district of Radolfzell on Lake Constance.
The starting point of the stage hike on the Querweg is the industrial town of Singen at Hohentwiel. We cross it on foot or by bus to the Hohentwiel Stadium.
On lonely forest paths and trails we reach the Friedinger Schlossberg, on which stands Hohenfriedingen Castle, colloquially also called „Friedinger Schlössle“. It is the last preserved castle in the Hegau, an exclave in the Radolfzell district.
After the impressive panoramic view of the volcanic mountains behind in the Hegau and the view of Lake Constance (and with some luck up to the Alps), we continue to Steißlingen, one of the most attractive residential communities in the Konstanz district. The renovated historic town center with beautiful half-timbered houses contributes to this. In the town center stands the Catholic Parish Church St. Remigius, surrounded by the „Klösterle“ and the castle of the Barons of Stotzingen.
The further paved path to the Homburg is compensated by magnificent views of the Hegau and the outlook over the Lower Lake of Lake Constance.

We enjoy the entire Hegau panorama from the viewing platform of the Homburg ruin high above Stahringen.

Roadbook
By choosing the starting point appropriately, we can already reduce the asphalt portion of the path at the beginning of the stage.
Those who have arrived by the Regionalbahn Seehas from the Landesgartenschau follow the white-red diamond on a yellow background across the railway tracks through Schaffhauser Straße to the „Billionenbrücke“, then turn right along the Radolfzeller Aach and at the „Stadtgartenbrücke“ turn left over the Aach. The Mühlenstraße leads straight into the busy Ekkehardstraße.
At the „Marktpassage“ those hikers joining the Querweg who have come from Singen Station and crossed the pedestrian zone via August-Ruf-Straße meet.
Together they proceed through Ekkehardstraße to the intersection with Ringstraße, there turn left and continue parallel through Radolfzeller Straße to the roundabout with the large ESSO gas station in the middle. We bypass this counterclockwise and continue along the edge of the stadium.
At the bus stop at the „Hohentwiel Stadium“ the Querweg hikers who have spared themselves the less attractive asphalt path through the town start.
There we turn left to the „Waldeck-Anlage“ and immediately turn right again along the allotment gardens where the paved path ends and leads into Adlerweg. In the Bruderhof state forest the Querweg forks left at a dilapidated resting place to shortly after turn right onto a trail to the „Großtannenwald Parking Lot“. Through the large fir forest we keep direction and finally leave the forest with a view of Friedingen Castle. We follow the access road into town briefly on the left and climb at the field cross to the „Nesselbol“ at the forest edge. Turning left through the forest, we cross the access road to the castle.
At the signpost „Schlösslepfad“ the Querweg continues straight ahead. The steep ascent (yellow diamond) via the narrow path on the right is worth it for the magnificent view of the Hegau mountains and Lake Constance alone. The beer garden and restaurant of the „Friedinger Schlössle“ are only open on a few days of the week. In front of the castle is also a lovely rest area with views towards Radolfzell and the Lower Lake.
The yellow diamond leads straight downhill and „At Friedinger Schlössle“ we turn left into the forest „At the Leprosy House“ back onto the Querweg. Passing the horse farm, we head towards the B33, go underneath it and continue on the right along the forest edge. Here we go left, always straight ahead to the open Fronholz Hut with a large barbecue area and finally down to Steißlingen.
At the intersection with the „Postweg“ we follow it left downhill to the „town center“. To the right, we go through Lange Straße towards the historic Ochsen inn and to the fork with Schlossstraße.
Here we briefly interrupt the hike on the Querweg to visit the picturesque town center of Steißlingen. Between the old parsonage, the oldest building in the village, and the castle we look up to the St. Remigius parish church. It stands on a Nagelfluh hill and dates back to the High Middle Ages. Below it is the „Klösterle“ with an old granary (wine cellar).
At the „Bohlstraße“ intersection, we leave the old town heading south and turn left into Sonnenblumenweg. Past the Helianthemum senior residence, the Querweg leads through Remigiusstraße into Ziegelweg and through the new development out of town.
Up at the „Ziegelhof“ at the forest edge we once again enjoy the view back to the Hegau mountains. Then we continue on the paved path uphill to Homburg to the „Weilerhof“ and the Porthöfe at the „Homburg Ruins“. Right through the farmyard we come to the start of the Schlosshaldenweg. To the left of it branches the path to the former castle, whose visit forms the highlight of the stage.
On the narrow Schlosshaldenweg, we descend in switchbacks to Stahringen. This path should be approached with caution when wet. In the castle valley, it becomes wider and finally leads tightly between fences into the „Schlosshaldenstraße“ up to the intersection with the main road.
Those who want to end the hike in Stahringen, turn left here and at the next fork right towards the „station“. We arrived with the „Seehas“ – return is with the „Seehäsle“.
