The Yunus Emre Fountain in Vienna’s Türkenschanzpark is a Turkish-Ottoman–style monument donated by Turkey in 1991 to honor the poet Yunus Emre and symbolize friendship between Vienna and Turkey.
Located in Vienna’s 18th District in the Türkenschanzpark, near Dane Street and Peter Jordan Street, the Yunus Emre Fountain commemorates the Turkish folk poet, mystic, and advocate of peace Yunus Emre, who lived around 750 years ago. The fountain, built in a Turkish-Ottoman architectural style, stands approximately 4.2 meters high and 2.4 meters wide. It was donated by the Republic of Turkey as a gesture of cultural exchange and friendship between Turkey and the City of Vienna, and formally handed over on October 11, 1991, in the presence of Turkish Ambassador Ayhan Kamel and representatives of the City of Vienna, including Mayor Helmut Zilk and district officials. The dedication coincided with UNESCO’s declaration of 1991 as the “Year of Yunus Emre,” highlighting the poet’s enduring legacy as a symbol of humanism, spirituality, and intercultural dialogue.
