1900 wurde Hohenwart an die Tiefenbronner Wasserleitung angeschlossen. Zuvor dienten zahlreiche Brunnen als Wasserquellen. In besonders trockenen Jahren konnten die zentral gelegenen Brunnen den Wasserbedarf der Bevölkerung kaum decken. Daher wurden auch etwas weiter gelegene Brunnen für die Wasserversorgung herangezogen.
Diese Quellschüttung wurde mit Sandstein gemauert.
Heute sind solche Frischwasserquellen für die Natur und ihre Lebewesen sehr wertvoll. Sie bieten Lebensraum bspw. für Larven des Feuersalamanders und als Trinkstelle für Wildtiere.
