Baltersweil bildet einen Ortsteil der Gemeinde Dettighofen. Der Ort liegt 534 m ü. NN und ist landschaftlich sehr reizvoll. Dies bestätigen die vielen Auszeichungen, die Baltersweil im Wettbewerb "Unser Dorf soll schöner werden" erlangen hat.

Ein bekanntes Markenzeichen ist das Käppele an der höchsten, etwa 600 m ü. NN gelegenen Stelle des Weges von Baltersweil nach Albführen.
Das der hl. Apollonia gewidmete kleine Heiligtum dient seit Jahrhunderten den Wallfahrern als Rast- und Ruhestätte. Diese waren auf uralten Pilgerpfaden unterwegs zu den berühmten Wallfahrtsstätten des Landes, vor allem aber nach Maria Einsiedeln und weiter zum Grab des Apostels Jakobus.
