Hoch oben auf dem Grat der Millstätter Alpe thront das Granattor. Inspiriert an der kubischen Ausrichtung alter römischer und griechischer Architektur entstand die Idee, mit diesem mächtigen Tor, welches 3,20 Meter in seiner Höhe und 3,50 Meter in der Breite misst, in der Gegend des größten Granatvorkommen Europas diesem kostbaren Edelstein zu huldigen.
Obwohl diese geometrische Form der Natur zu trotzen scheint, entsteht durch die säurebehandelte Oberfläche des Granattors, wodurch seine natürliche, erdige Farbe zum Ausdruck gebracht wird, ein stimmiges, anziehendes Bild in der Landschaft. Der Text, der aus dem Metall geschnitten wurde, spiegelt die Geschichte des Granates wieder und ehrt die Blutstropfen der Nocke zudem durch die Füllung von Tonnen Granaten in seinem Inneren.
Das Durchschreiten des Granattors auf dem von der Natur granatgepflasterten Boden, gibt einen unvergesslichen Blick über den Millstätter See frei.
