Der Feldherrenhügel als solcher bezeichnete früher den Standort des Feldherren während einer Schlacht. Hügel versteht sich dabei als der Ort mit möglichst gutem Überblick über das Schlachtfeld. Von dort aus wurde die Schlacht geleitet. Militärisch spielt der Feldherrenhügel heute keine Rolle mehr.
