Sziklák a Mátra-bércen
A 13-15 millió évvel ezelőtt kialakult hegység későbbi földtörténeti korokban dél felé megdőlt, észak irányába ezért meredek sziklafalak merednek. A csapadékban szegény jégkorszak fagypont körüli klímáján jelentős volt a fagyaprózódás (krioplanáció), amely néhol egészen bizarr kőalakzatokat preparált ki a vulkáni kőzetekből (pl. Szamár-kő, Disznó-kő)
