Die Kreisstadt des Ostallgäus

Ob ländlich geprägte Umgebung oder kulturelle Höhepunkte – Marktoberdorf bietet fast alles. Und das mit einer faszinierenden Mischung aus beschaulicher Ruhe und dörflichem Leben, gewachsener Geschichte und lebendiger Moderne, Kultur und Natur pur. Zahlreiche ehrwürdige Kirchen sind es wert, besucht zu werden. So ist beispielsweise die Stadtpfarrkirche Sankt Martin auf dem Schlossberg ein Juwel der Rokokozeit. Auch die Frauenkapelle auf dem Marktplatz, die zusammen mit dem alten Rathaus ein ganz eigenes, reizvolles Stadtambiente schafft, bietet eine Auszeit vom hektischen Alltag.

 
Die Bayerische Musikakademie im ehemaligen Fürstbischöflichen Schloss, hoch über den Dächern Marktoberdorfs, verspricht kulturellen Hochgenuss. Ein weiterer Höhepunkt im Marktoberdorfer Kulturkalender sind die Festivals Musica Sacra International (in geraden Jahren) und der Internationale Kammerchorwettbewerb (in ungeraden Jahren). Darüber hinaus bietet das städtische Veranstaltungshaus MODEON unvergessliche Abende mit beispielsweise Ballett- oder Musiktheater-Aufführungen mit Live-Orchestern an. Die MODEON-Besucher schätzen hier vor allem die hochkarätigen kulturellen Veranstaltungen, das abwechslungsreiche Programm, die gute Akustik sowie die moderaten Preise.

 
Auch kulinarisch gibt es ein besonderes Angebot: die kulinarischen (Ver)führungen! Die Besucher werden in die Welt der Kulinarik verführt und genießen für ein paar Stunden die leckere Seite des Lebens, fernab von Trubel und Hektik.

 
Eine gesunde wirtschaftliche Struktur zwischen Landwirtschaft, Handwerk und Industrie bei bester Beschäftigungslage, ein reges Vereinsleben mit ca. 180 Vereinen, das kulturelle und sportliche Bild unserer Stadt, das weit über ihre Grenzen hinaus bekannt ist, runden das Gesamtbild dieser liebenswerten Kleinstadt ab.

 
Marktoberdorf mit 18.000 Einwohnern ist Patenstadt für die Stadt und den ehemaligen Landkreis Hohenelbe (Riesengebirge) und Partnerstadt von Waldmünchen (Oberpfalz).

 
Im Winter laden neben zahlreichen Winterwanderwegen und Rodelhängen auch der Eisplatz zum Genießen der kalten Jahreszeit ein. Im Sommer bieten Wander- und Radwege neben dem vielseitigen Kulturprogramm Abwechslung und Genuss. Zu jeder Jahreszeit lohnt sich ein Spaziergang durch die fast zwei Kilometerlange Kurfürstenallee. Diese von 620 Linden gesäumte Allee verfügt über einen über 200 Jahre alten Baumbestand und ist Naturdenkmal. Neben der Abgeschiedenheit hoch über den Dächern Marktoberdorfs begleitet der stete Blick auf das Allgäuer Alpenpanorama den Spaziergänger.
