Vaux Marsh constitutes an unusual habitat and is home to plants which are able to withstand conditions of extreme humidity.
Le Marais de Vaux a été labellisé "ENS" par le Département de l'Ain en 2017. Véritables joyaux naturels et paysagers du Département de l'Ain, les sites bénéficiant du label ENS « Espaces naturels sensibles » sont gérés de manière à préserver la biodiversité qu’ils accueillent et aménagés pour l’ouverture au public (sauf exception due la fragilité des milieux).

Près de 160 espèces végétales ont été répertoriées sur le marais.
Une des plus grandes zones naturelles de l'Ain (100 hectares) recélant 160 espèces végétales (œillet superbe, drosera à feuilles rondes, orchidées...) et abritant de nombreux oiseaux (pie grièche grise, bécasse des marais, milan royal). Des petits chevaux polonais, les Konik Polski, ont été récemment introduits par le Conservatoire Régional du Patrimoine, pour entretenir les marais.

Le marais de Vaux accueille plusieurs activités de loisirs comme la randonnée et la chasse. En prenant quelques précautions, celles-ci sont tout à fait compatibles avec la préservation des milieux et des espèces. Grâce au sentier traversant le cœur du marais, le site est un lieu privilégié pour comprendre et valoriser les zones humides.

Un sentier d'environ 5,5km permet de faire le tour du marais. Interdit au V.T.T.
