A Tót-hegyes tetején a trikolórba festett csúcskő mellett csak egy hevenyészett tűzrakó helyet találunk; és csak a fák között kandikál ki a Kékes. A csúcsra vezető, szerpentines turistaút kisebb kőtörmeléklejtőt is érint. A „kőtenger” a fagy munkájának eredménye: a résekbe folyt víz sokszoros összefagyása és kiolvadása törte kisebb darabokra az egykori sziklafelszínt – a fagyott víz térfogata kb 10 százalékkal megnő a folyékonyéhoz képest, ez veti szét a kőzetet.
A Tót-hegyes külön értéke a hegy déli lábánál fakadó Babik-kút, amely nyáron is tiszta vizet ad, még aszály idején is csordogál belőle a víz. A Tót-hegyes kevésbé járt, de hangulatos úti cél azoknak, akik a Mátra nyugodtabb részeit szeretnék felfedezni.
A kilátás egykor
A Mátra 1930-ban kiadott útikalauza szerint a csúcs egykor teljes értékű kilátópont volt: „Mint a Mátra főgerince elé messze előretolt s kimagasló hegycsúcs, kiválóan alkalmas kilátópont, honnan teljes körkép élvezhető a Nyugati és Középső Mátra valamennyi ormára, bércére, mögöttük pedig feltárul a távoli határ a Tátráig, a Bükkig, a Buda-Pilisi hegyekig."

Public transport
- A legközelebbi buszmegálló a Bagolyirtás (Mátraszentimre) megálló.
- A Gyöngyöstarján, köztemető buszmegálló felől is indulhatunk, de itt csak napi néhány buszjárat közlekedik.
- A Gyöngyöstarján, autóbusz-váróteremben sokkal több busz megáll.

Directions
- Bagolyirtásról a Z jelzésű turistaúton induljunk dél felé, majd a Z+ és végül a Z▲ jelzésű ösvényeken folytassuk az utat a Tót-hegyesig (4,6 km, 175 m szintemelkedés).
- Gyöngyöstarján, autóbusz-váróteremből a Jókai Mór tér felé indulva máris rácsatlakozunk az ott induló Z▲ jelzésű turistaútra, amely egyenesen felvezet a csúcsra (9,4 km, 664 m szintemelkedés).
- A Gyöngyöstarján, köztemető buszmegállóból és a temető melletti parkolótól a Z▲ jelzésen juthatunk fel a hegyre (8,6 km, 644 m szintemelkedés).

- Bagolyirtáson a Pelyhes-rétnél tudunk leparkolni (4,5 km, 175 m szintemelkedés).
- A gyöngyöstarjáni temetőnél tudjuk leparkolni az autónkat.
