Der Schönkahler hat eine Höhe von 1688 m und zählt zu den Allgäuer Alpen. 
Er liegt in den Tannheimer Bergen zwischen Pfronten und Zöblen. Südlich des Berggipfels befindet sich der Pirschling (1634 m). Direkt über den Schönkahler verläuft die Grenze von Deutschland und Österreich. Der Aufstieg ist von Zöblen möglich, wobei es sich um eine relativ leichte Wanderung handelt.
