Der Magdalensberg zeugt mit seinen Ausgrabungsstätten von einer Besiedelung bis zurück zur Keltenzeit. Als Handelszentrum des Königreichs Noricum war die Gegend durchaus Bedeutsam. Heute zählt der Berg östlich des Klagenfurter Beckens zu einem beliebten Ausflugs- und Wanderberg. Auch die Radfahrer schätzen den Magdalensberg für seine knackige Auffahrt mit Aussichtsgarantie.
Die Wallfahrtskirche am Gipfel ist übrigens Ausgangspunkt des berühmten Vierbergelaufes.
