A hegycsúcsot kopjafa jelzi, körülötte farönkökből odahordott pihenőhely van.
A környékbeli hegyek-völgyek izgalmas geológiai foylamatok eredményeképp jöttek létre, a felszín alatt változatos kőzetösszetételt találunk. A magasabb hegytömbök fő tömege vulkanikus eredetű, de a földtani középidőben lerakódott homokkövet és mészkőt is találunk itt. A hegylábi, lankásabb területek fő építőanyaga a homok és az északi szelek által szállított lösz. A sekélytengeri üledékben felhalmozódott feketekőszén felelt a térség ipari jelentőségéért: a szénkitermelésre rendezkedtek be a Mecsek északi lejtőin megépült falvak, így Szászvár, Váralja és Nagymányok is. A Dobogó megközelítését is ezekről a településekről javasoljuk, alternatív irányként pedig a magyaregregyi Vár-völgy jöhet szóba.

- A legközelebbi buszmegálló a Szászvár, Május 1. tér.
- Egy másik kiindulási pont lehet a Magyaregregy, Vár-völgy buszmegálló.

- Szászvárról a Z▲, majd a S▲ jelzésű turistaúton kell gyalogolni a csúcsig (6,4 km, 428 m szintemelkedés).
- Magyaregregy mellől a P, majd a P+, a S+ és végül a S▲ jelzésű utat kell követni a Dobogóra (6,7 km, 369 m szintemelkedés).
- Kézenfekvő kiindulási pont a kisújbányai parkoló is. Innen a K, majd a S jelzésű turistaúton kell haladnunk, végül a csúcsot a S▲ jelzésre fordulva érjük el (2,3 km, 157 m szintemelkedés).
Parking
- Kisújbánya határában ingyenes parkolóhelyeket találunk. Innen érhetjük el a leggyorsabban a Dobogót.
