Der 1.241 m hohe Kandel ist der höchste Berg des Mittleren Schwarzwalds und liegt zwischen Waldkirch und St. Peter. Der große Kandelfelsen ist ein beliebtes Revier für Kletterer und verfügt über zahlreiche Routen der meisten Schwierigkeitsgrade.

Am Kandel befinden sich Startplätze für Drachen- und Gleitschirmflieger mit Landeplatz im Waldkircher Ortsteil Heimeck. Im Winter stehen Skilifte sowie eine Langlaufloipe zur Verfügung.

Alljährlich findet der Kandel-Berglauf statt. Start ist auf dem Marktplatz der Stadt Waldkirch, von dort aus müssen 980 Höhenmeter auf der Landstraße zur Passhöhe überwunden werden. Der obere Teil des Kandelfelsens, die sogenannte Teufelskanzel, brach 1981 in der Walpurgisnacht vom 30. April zum 1. Mai ab. Etwa 2.000 Kubikmeter Gestein lösten sich und liegen noch heute unterhalb des Felsens.

Der Kandel wird durch die L 186 (Schwarzwald-Panoramastraße) von Waldkirch und Glottertal / St. Peter erschlossen.
