A tágas, padokkal ellátott tisztás, ahol a forrás fakad, tökéletes kiindulópont Drégely várának meghódításához. Minden évben itt rendezik meg a Szondi várjátékokat.
A Hévíz-patak völgyében kanyargó út mellett, erdős hegyoldalak közt fekszik a hangulatos tisztás, ahol a forrásvíz állandó jelleggel tör a felszínre.
A ,,schaffer" szó német nyelven pásztort jelent, utalva arra, hogy a tatárdúlás és a török hódoltság után német telepesekkel pótolták a lakosságot. A Schaffer-kútnál kulturált körülmények között, padokkal és asztalokkal bőven ellátott pihenőhelynél gyűjthetünk erőt Drégely várának bevételéhez. A színpaddal is felszerelt tisztáson szokták megidézni Szondi legendáját: ekkor korhű jelmezekben játsszák el Drégelyvár ostromát.
A tisztáson érdemes elolvasni a Drégely váráról szóló információs táblákat, valamint a Drégelypalánkról egészen a várig vezető Apródok útja tanösvény tábláját.
A térképen és a helyszínen is többféle írásmóddal találkozhatunk: a vasúti megálló neve Sáferkút, magát a forrást pedig hol Sáfer-kút, hol pedig németesen Schaffer-kút alakban láthatjuk leírva.
