Die Madenburg wurde als Höhenburg am Ostrand des Pfälzerwaldes auf einem in die Rheinebene vorspringenden Felsausläufer des Rothenbergs erbaut. Die von Wald umgebene Ruine liegt etwa 250 m oberhalb von Eschbach auf einer Höhe von 458 m über dem Meeresspiegel.
Die Madenburg liegt am Fuß des Rothenberg, hoch überhalb der Gemeinde Eschbach. Das "Eschbacher Schloß" ist eine der größten Burganlagen der Pfalz. Die Reichsburg wurde im 11.Jahrhundert erstmalig urkundlich erwähnt.
Angeführt von General Montclar wird die Burg 1680 von Französischen Truppen vollständig zerstört.
Der Madenburgverein kümmert sich seit 1870 um den Erhalt der Ruine.
Opening times
Öffnungszeiten:
April - Oktober von 10-19 Uhr (Montags geschlossen);
November - März von 12-16 Uhr (Montags und Dienstags geschlossen).
Eintritt frei (während der Öffnungszeiten ist die Burgschänke geöffnet)
Tipp:
Die Burg ist am Wochenende sehr gut besucht.
Sie sollten Ihren Besuch wenn möglich unter der Woche planen.
Es ist unbedingt eine Einkehr in der Burgschänke zu empfehlen.
An den Wochenenden und Feiertagen ist das Museum in der Vorburg geöffnet.
