A Káli-medence közepén fekvő Kereki azoknak a középkori Balaton-felvidéki falvaknak a sorát bővíti, amelyeknek a nevét már csak egykori templomuk neve őrzi.

Már a 13. századból találunk említést Kerekikál faluról – a "kál" utótag a területet korábban birtokló Kál horka nemzetségét jelöli – és templomáról. Az épület és a falu pusztulását a törökök okozták a 16. században. A lakosság ugyan még visszatelepült, de a század végétől már újra lakatlannak számított. A 13. századtól a terület a veszprémi püspökség birtoka volt, ezért, mint a korabeli egyházi központoknál általában, pontos nyilvántartást vezettek róla. Innen tudjuk, hogy 1333-ban Kerekikál papjának neve Balázs volt.

A román stílusú templom egyhajós, keletelt, egyenes szentélyzáródású lehetett. A 20. század elején még valamennyire állhattak falai, mert vincellérházként használták. A II. világháború után azonban már csak a romok maradtak, a falaiból ma csupán alacsony maradványokat láthatunk – amikor éppen nem nőtte körbe a növényzet, jelenleg ugyanis sűrű akácos veszi körbe. Így a Mindszentkállától délkeletre emelkedő, vulkáni eredetű dombocskán nem is könnyű észrevenni a romot, hacsak szándékosan nem keressük. Bár a közelben vezet a Theodora Kékkő tanösvény útvonala, arról is csak a szántáson keresztül, vagy a Tapolca-Zánka műút felől az akácoson átvágva tudjuk megközelíteni.

A néphit szerint egykor a domb tetején állt a honfoglalás után a környéket birtokló Kál nemzetség vára, de erre eddig semmilyen tudományos bizonyítékot nem találtak.

  • A mindszentkállai buszmegállótól a Theodora Kékkő tanösvényen induljunk el, majd ahol becsatlakozik a tanösvény másik ága, a szántáson át északkelet felé követjük a domb peremét. (1,6 km).
  • A parkolóból Köveskál irányába induljunk az út mentén, majd a bal oldalon, nagyjából 350 méter múlva egy tábla jelzi a dombra felvezető, nehezen megtalálható ösvényt. A legjobban akkor járunk, ha megkerüljük a dombot az óra járásával ellentétes irányban. (500 m).

  • Parkolni a Köveskál és Káptalantóti közötti, 7313-as számú út melletti Kerekimajor parkolóban lehet.
