Deidesheim City Park
The Deidesheim City Park is a green oasis. Covering around 1.3 hectares, visitors can expect a diverse park with meadows, winding paths, playgrounds, and Mediterranean plants, including evergreen magnolias and other heat-loving species. The freely accessible park is a popular destination for walks and short breaks.
Tip for families:
The city park features two playgrounds with various play equipment. In addition, the park is directly connected to the Alla-Hopp! Round, a circular path that links several recreational and exercise offerings in Deidesheim. City Park Deidesheim
It is a fact that Deidesheim is one of the warmest places in Germany on average throughout the year. This is thanks to the Palatinate Forest, which shields against the westerly winds, and the vineyards that moderate the cold northerly winds in spring. Thus, Deidesheim has become one of the warmest places in Germany, where lemons bloom and even ripen, and figs practically grow into people's mouths right on the street. To document and make this experience tangible, the idea of a city park with a "Mediterranean terrace" was born.
This idea became reality when the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) took place in Munich in 1983, and no one really knew what to do with the carefully tended plants after the summer-long festival. A large part of the plants would have had to be destroyed, but instead, they found a much better place in Deidesheim in autumn. In the new city garden, they thrived splendidly: lavender, rosemary, the Japanese ginkgo, and much more.
Over the decades, the city park has changed its appearance. Now, native plants have been intentionally planted again. With a bit of luck, you can also see the Deidesheim sheep that graze here several times a year.
