The marsh is particularly renowned among birdwatchers, with over 160 identified bird species recorded in the area. Species observed here include the great bittern, purple heron, osprey, short-toed snake eagle, long-legged buzzard, white stork, and great reed warbler. The surrounding grasslands also support endemic and rare plant species adapted to the marsh’s fragile environment. Although an eco-trail and visitor infrastructure once allowed easier exploration, parts of the pathway system were destroyed by fire, significantly limiting public access to sections of the reserve. Despite this, Dragoman Marsh remains one of Bulgaria’s most valuable protected natural landscapes.

Public transport
Dragoman can be reached by regional trains and buses from Sofia, located approximately 40 kilometres to the southeast. From the town centre, visitors generally require a taxi, bicycle, or private vehicle to reach the marsh area along Route S103.Directions
The marsh is located north of Dragoman along Route S103. Visitors should follow the local road leading out of the town towards the wetland area. Due to the damaged eco-path infrastructure, access to the interior of the reserve is currently limited, and some sections may only be viewable from surrounding roads and observation points.Parking
Limited roadside parking is available near access points along Route S103 and around the marsh perimeter. Visitors should park carefully without obstructing local traffic or protected natural areas.Coordinates
