Von 1802 bis 1826 lebte Friedrich Schiller mit seiner Familie im Herzen Weimars, in der heutigen Schillerstraße.
Im Wohnhaus an der Esplanade verlebte Friedrich Schiller seine letzten drei Lebens- und Schaffensjahre. Hier entstanden die großen Dramen „Die Braut von Messina“ und „Wilhelm Tell“, bevor der Dichter 1805 in seinem Arbeitszimmer starb. Noch heute sind dort der originale Schreibtisch und Schillers Bett zu sehen.
