The Museum “Horreum Margi – Ravno” is the main cultural and historical museum of Ćuprija, dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Pomoravlje region. Its collections cover archaeology, ethnography, and local history, with particular emphasis on the Roman settlement of Horreum Margi. The museum offers insight into the long historical continuity of the area from antiquity to modern times.

Named after the ancient Roman settlement of Horreum Margi, the museum highlights the importance of Ćuprija as a historical crossroads in central Serbia. Horreum Margi developed during the Roman period along the strategic route connecting the Danube frontier with the interior of the Balkans. Archaeological collections displayed in the museum include Roman ceramics, tools, coins, and fragments of everyday objects discovered in the surrounding region, illustrating the settlement’s role as a military, commercial, and administrative centre.

In addition to its archaeological holdings, the museum presents ethnographic and historical exhibitions focused on traditional life in the Pomoravlje area. These displays include household objects, clothing, crafts, and archival materials documenting the social and cultural development of the region. Through its permanent and temporary exhibitions, the museum serves as an important institution for preserving local identity and interpreting the diverse historical influences that shaped Ćuprija and its surroundings.

Public transport

Ćuprija can be reached by regional trains and buses from Belgrade, Niš, and other major Serbian cities. The museum is located within the town centre and can easily be reached on foot or by local taxi services from the main bus and railway stations.

Directions

From the centre of Ćuprija, the museum is situated on Karađorđeva Street, close to the main urban area and public institutions. Visitors arriving at the bus or train station can reach the museum with a short walk through the town centre.

Parking is available along nearby streets and in public parking areas close to the museum. Availability is generally good, though spaces may be more limited during busy hours.
