The Leopold Museum is one of Vienna’s leading art museums, renowned for the world’s largest Egon Schiele collection and major works of Austrian Modernism.
Located in the MuseumsQuartier, the Leopold Museum houses over 8,300 works collected by Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold, whose passion helped rehabilitate once-controversial artists such as Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt. The museum’s core focus is Austrian art from the late 19th century to early Modernism, with highlights by Schiele, Klimt, Kokoschka, Gerstl, and Kubin, alongside important Biedermeier painters like Waldmüller and Romako. Beyond paintings and drawings, the collection includes Jugendstil and Wiener Werkstätte furniture, design objects, and non-European art, reflecting Leopold’s holistic view of art and culture. Opened in 2001, the bright limestone-clad building also features a café with views over Vienna’s historic centre.
