The Kunsthalle Wien is Vienna’s main contemporary art institution, showing innovative national and international exhibitions without a permanent collection.

Located in the MuseumsQuartier, Kunsthalle Wien presents cutting-edge contemporary art through themed group shows, solo exhibitions and experimental formats that connect art, theory and social issues. As an urban platform for artistic discourse, it engages diverse audiences with exhibitions spanning installation, video, photography and multimedia work, and hosts talks, workshops and educational programmes. Founded as a flexible space rather than a traditional museum with a permanent collection, it adapts constantly to new ideas and collaborations — and also has a café terrace where visitors can linger after viewing the art.

Public transport

The MuseumsQuartier location is easiest to reach by U2 or U3 (Volkstheater or MuseumsQuartier) or by bus 48A to Volkstheater U, with tram lines D, 1, 2, 71 nearby.

Parking

Street parking in the Neubau/MuseumsQuartier area is mainly paid short-term zones and can be limited; a nearby underground car park around Mariahilfer Straße or Burggasse is usually easier for car visitors before walking a few minutes to the museum.
