He lived a life like in an American movie. Dezider Hoffman, a Banská Štiavnica citizen of Jewish origin, travelled the world, but in Slovakia he is not very-well known.

He began his career behind the movie camera of the American film company 20th Century Fox. It broke down on a business trip to Spain, so he replaced it with a photo-camera. He started working for the music magazine Record Mirror, where he set the bar of shooting and photography very high. Several famous names took turns in his viewfinder. From Karel Gott, Frank Sinatra, Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe to the Beatles and many more. In his honour, there is a permanent autobiographical exhibition in Banská Štiavnica, located in the birthplace house of Dezider Hoffman.
