The Monte Moro Pass has always played an important role for the inhabitants of the Saas Valley.

The pass connects the Saas Valley with the Italian Macugnaga in the Anzasca Valley, which was one of the few Walser settlements in Italy. The connection still exists today and many people from Saas have relatives in Macugnaga. The easy pass was once used as a mule track and was an important pass for the Walser. At the top of the pass is the golden statue of Mary, which was built in 1970.
