Das Tor auf dem Grünen Band ist ein Symbol für die überwundene Teilung Deutschlands. Es wird aus zwei zwölf Meter hohen Eichenstämmen gebildet, die am Boden mit einer Edelstahlschwelle verbunden sind.

Ein großes offenes Tor, künstlerisch gestaltet, steht direkt auf der alten Grenzlinie. Es lädt zum Durchblick ein auf die wieder zusammenwachsende deutsche Landschaft, zum ungehinderten und ungefährdeten Durchschreiten und zur Erinnerung. Es gestattet den Blick zurück und den nach vorn. Es erinnert an den Fall der Mauer und an die Wiedervereinigung.
