Borderless circular route - "western" Lower Saxony - "eastern" Thuringia

Your hiking route starts at the bus station in Duderstadt and leads you over the historic fortification towards Leeren.

Across an open landscape, you walk to the Franz-von-Assisi Chapel on a hill with a great panoramic view over the Lower and Upper Eichsfeld. Shortly thereafter, you reach Gut Herbigshagen, home to the Nature Experience Center of the Heinz Sielmann Foundation. The foundation has been committed to nature conservation and biodiversity for over 25 years. Here you have the opportunity for a short break.

Then you continue past the foundation’s fallow deer enclosure to the Sielmann hut with a view of the Wehnder Warte, a former watchtower from the late Middle Ages. Via the Border Path, you ascend to the "West-Eastern Gate." This historic site was inaugurated by Mikhail Gorbachev in 2002.

Descending towards Duderstadt, you pass through the district of Gerblingerode along the Schützenplatz. Finally, the hiking route ends in the beautiful old town of Duderstadt.
