Viele Wanderwege im Waldgebiet zwischen Bexbach, Hangard und Frankenholz weisen auf den „Steinernen Mann“ hin. Es handelt sich um den Standplatz eines römischen Denkmals, von dem der Basisstein noch erhalten ist.

Im Jahre 1908 beschreibt Herr Professor Grünewald in der „Chronik von Oberbexbach u. Frankenholz“ den in unveränderter Form auch heute noch erhaltenen „Steinernen Mann“: „Im Walde, westlich von Frankenholz, hart neben dem Grenzstein 176, in der Schneise, welche von der „runden Eiche“ durch den Distrikt „steinerner Mann“ auf die Straße nach Höchen zieht, stand seit langer Zeit die untere Hälfte eines römischen Viergötteraltars, allen möglichen Unbilden ausgesetzt. Der Stein ist noch 62 cm hoch, 33x38 cm breit. Auf seiner ehemaligen Südseite sind die Beine des „steinernen Manns“, eines nackten Gottes, gut erhalten, neben seinem linken Schenkel, an dem Südostende des Steines der Kopf und Oberkörper eines Löwen sichtbar. Auf der Ostseite ist von dem Unterkörper einer Göttin nur mehr ein Teil zu sehen.“

Hierbei handelt es sich um den Sockel einer Jupitergigantensäule, eines Viergöttersteins. Diese 6-10 Meter hohen Säulen wurden in römischer Zeit in der Zeit von 170-250 n.Chr. vielfach an exponierten Stellen, z.B. Wegkreuzungen, aufgestellt.. Diese Säulen gab es nur im keltischen Raum. Es sind etwa 200 dieser Viergöttersteine erhalten. Das von Tilemann Stella bereits 1564 erwähnte „steinen mansbildt“  stand auf der Gipfelhöhe des Höcherbergs, über den mehrere wichtige  römische Straßen führten. Auf dem Sockel der bunt angemalten Säulen wurden im Normalfall die Bilder des Hercules (Beschützer der Strassen), der Minerva (Beschützerin der Handwerker), der Juno  (Beschützerin von Haus und Familie) und des Mercur (Gott des Handels und Verkehrs) dargestellt, auf einem runden Zwischensockel weitere Gottheiten.  Darauf steht eine runde mit Pflanzenmustern verzierte Säule. Gekrönt wird die Säule durch Jupiter Optimus Maximus, den höchsten Himmelsgott. Die Säulen sind als Nachbildungen im Blumengarten Bexbach und Römermuseum Schwarzenacker zu besichtigen.

Unser „steinerner Mann“ stand bis Ende des 19. Jahrhundert an seinem ursprünglichen Platz. Der Originalstein wird seit einigen Jahren im Museum Speyer aufbewahrt. Steinmetz Werner Glöckner aus Hangard konnte nach Herstellung einer Abgussform eine originalgetreue Kopie des Steines herstellen. Im September 2008 wurde von Werner und Marcus Glöckner das Denkmal auf dem neu geschaffenen Stella Tilemann Platz aufgestellt. Das historische Dokument steht jetzt 150 m unterhalb seines im Wald gelegenen Originalstandortes , wo es vor ca 1800 Jahren errichtet worden war.
