Have you heard about a water slide which is ridden, not by children, but by wood? One such water slide is located near the village of Dolný Harmanec.
From hard-to-reach forest terrains, wood used to be sent down the water channel to the valley. Guards stood at different places along the way, overseeing the trouble-free transport of loaded wood. The historic water channel was built in the 19th century and was declared a cultural monument in 2000. The total length of the water channel is 2450 metres. Only spruce and fir wood were used for its construction, no iron, plastic or other connecting material can be found.
