After the siege, Kolschitzky was rewarded with large stores of coffee left behind by the retreating Ottomans. He then opened Vienna’s first coffee house, “Zur blauen Flasche”, at Stock-im-Eisen-Platz 4. His courage and ingenuity earned him a lasting place in Viennese history, and Kolschitzkygasse was named in his honour in 1862.
