Wolfsberg: Kapuzinerkloster
Die protestantischen Ideen nach Martin Luther blühten in Wolfsberg auf.
Die katholische Kirche holte bald zum Gegenschlag aus. Auch der Wiener Hof wollte im Sinne der Gegenreformation die Vormachtstellung des katholischen Glaubens sichern. Daher wurden Kapuzinermönche nach Wolfsberg geschickt, um sich dort anzusiedeln. Ab 1623 wurde ein Kloster für sie gebaut und bald darauf die Kirche zu Ehren Mariä Himmelfahrt eingeweiht. Wie auch das Minoritenkloster, wurde das Kloster der Kapuziner dem Brand von 1777 zu Opfer und brannte völlig nieder. Nur mit großzügiger Unterstützung von Kaiserin Maria Theresia konnte der Gebäudekomplex wiederaufgebaut werden.
Sie hatte ein enges Verhältnis zu den Kapuzinern, da die Begräbnisstätte der Habsburger unter der Kapuzinerkirche in Wien liegt. In der Kapuzinergruft besuchte sie täglich ihren verstorbenen Gatten Franz Stefan von Lothringen.
2007 musste das Kapuzinerkloster geschlossen werden, denn die wenigen verbliebenen Patres waren schon sehr alt und wurden in das Hauptkloster nach Wien zurückgeholt. Heute läuft das Kloster wieder unter dem alten Namen "Mariä Himmelfahrt" und wird vom Stift St. Paul betreut.
