1738 wurde der Grundstein für die Klosterkirche gelegt; 1743 der Grundstein für das Kloster.
Nach einer wechselvollen Geschichte stand das Kloster im Jahre 1983 vor der Auflösung. Gleichzeitig gab es den Wunsch einen Ort zu haben, an dem Menschen das Leben im Kloster kennenlernen können. Stühlingen war für dieses Projekt geeignet und so wurde es 1983 "Kloster zum Mitleben"
