Founded in 1919, the Maria-Hilf monastery in Bühl was created by taking over a farmstead with various buildings and a total of 6 hectares of farmland with around 1,200 fruit trees.
As the existing buildings were not sufficient for the tasks and purposes of a monastery, numerous extensions had to be made. The baroque-style monastery church, which was painted by the Karlsruhe art and church painter Mariano Kitschker, deserves special mention. The church was consecrated in 1928.
Over the course of its history, the monastery has undergone numerous changes. From 1939 to 1945, a military hospital was set up in the monastery, and from 1945, the monastery became a retraining centre and vocational training centre for French soldiers suffering from tuberculosis. In 1956, a kindergarten and later a day care centre were added to the complex.
The sisters of the convent, together with a team of non-conventual staff, offer numerous spiritual programmes for reflection and relaxation. You can also simply spend the night here in the contemplative atmosphere of the monastery.
Incidentally, a car garage on the estate served as a chapel for the sisters in the early days after 1919.
