Today, only the waterwheel of the Rosselmühle in our romantic valley can still move with the natural power of water. At the Rosselmühle, the mill wheel turned six times per minute, which corresponded to a power of 14 horsepower. Residents of Maßweiler, Thaleischweiler, Höhfrösen, Herschberg, Gersbach, and Reifenberg had their grain milled at the Rosselmühle. Making beautiful white flour was once the great art of miller master Adolf Luxembourger.
For local historians, the Rosselmühle is one of the oldest mills in the valley, although there is still no precise historical evidence to this day. It is known that the mill was newly built in 1720. From this point on, it received the nickname Eselsmühle, as these animals set the grinding stones of the bone mill in motion. The bone meal subsequently became an important fertilizer for agriculture. The current residential house of the Rosselmühle was built by Valentin Agne in 1838. The next owner was the miller Daniel Wild. He later transferred it to his son-in-law Heinrich Cron. At an auction in 1872, Jakob Borst from Maßweiler purchased the mill for 2,800 guilders. Borst sold the mill in 1875 to his cousin Peter Huber from Riedelberg.
