The first documented mention of a mill in Limbach dates back to 1219. Ownership then changed constantly over the centuries. After the Thirty Years' War, the Weber family of millers (to whom the founder of today's Karlsberg brewery, Christian Weber, also belonged) ran the mill, also known as the "village mill", from 1776 to 1931.
Due to the Great Depression, the mill finally had to be sold in 1931. It continued to be operated until 1963, when it was shut down due to the mill cartel. In 1988, the Limbach mill was acquired by the municipality of Kirkel. Today, the upper floor, the so-called "Schrotboden", houses the municipality's wedding room. In 1989, the Limbacher Mühle Friends' Association was founded after friends of the Limbacher Mühle had been campaigning since 1987 to prevent the building from being demolished. The aim is to preserve and utilise the mill. The aim is to maintain and pass on crafts in the form of courses in the field of popular and adult education as well as to provide a beautiful space for art and cultural events. If interested, the premises can also be hired for private celebrations.
