Die Oberallgäuer Gemeinde Rettenberg liegt auf 807 m am Fuße des Grünten. Auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite erstreckt sich direkt oberhalb des Ortes der lang gestreckte Höhenzug des Rottachbergs. Zur Gemeinde gehören neben dem Hauptort Rettenberg auch die Ortsteile Kranzegg, Rottach, Untermaiselstein, Vorderburg und Wagneritz. Bekannt ist Rettenberg vor allem als Brauereidorf. Sowohl die Brauerei Engelbräu als auch die Privatbrauerei Zötler sind hier beheimatet.
