The Gerberviertel is located outside the historic city centre directly on the Kinzig river.
Tanners' quarter
This oldest part of the town has always been outside the town walls. The stately half-timbered houses were built in the 17th and 18th centuries by tanners who practised Schiltach's traditional craft here by the water.
Tannery
The old craft of tanning is still practised today at the Trautwein company. Here, mostly sheepskins are tanned and processed into the finest leather. This business is the last of its kind in Schiltach.
