A placcon esőház (kavicsos padlóján 4-6 ember bivakolhat), több, egymástól távol elhelyezett, kőfalú tűzrakó, padok és asztalok állnak, és innen indul az öreg erdőn végigvezető gombaismereti tanösvény. A hangulatos erdei piknikezőhely gyalog könnyen, aszfalton elérhető (érdemi szintemelkedés nélkül), mégis az erdő mélyén, természetes környezetben fekszik.
1995-ben vihar csavarta ki a két, kb. 300 éves kocsánytalan tölgyet, amik a korábbi kitermelésekkor meghagyott hagyásfák lehettek. Ezeket hívták errefelé banyafáknak (az Alföldön basafáknak), mert a helyi mondavilág szerint tövükben találkozgattak a boszorkányok. A Farkas-erdő kialakítása előtti időkből származó tölgyek maradványai a talajon hevernek, és holtukban is látványosak, méretesek. Ugyanitt kopjafa állít emléket a hazai tölgyerdő-gazdálkodás egyik neves alakjának, aki a Farkas-erdőben is tevékenykedett, és táblán olvashatunk egy felszámolt, 120 éves bükkösről is.
