Mit einer Länge von 2,4 Kilometern, einer mittleren Breite von knapp 600 Metern und einer Tiefe bis zu 25 Metern bedeckt der Weißensee eine Fläche von 1,35 Quadratkilometern. Der Eintritt zum Freibad Weißensee ist frei. Es verfügt über eine große Liegewiese, Kinderspielplatz, Badefloß, Kiosk, Café und einen Bootsverleih. Auf dem ebenen Uferwanderweg kann man den Weißensee in 1,5 bis 2 Stunden unmrunden. Am Nordufer liegt die Weißenseer Pfarrkirche St. Walburga, in der vor allem der Hochaltar von Dominikus Zimmermann, dem Baumeister der Wieskirche, einen Abstecher wert ist. Landschaftlich besonders reizvoll ist das Südufer, wo der Uferweg eng am Berghang entlangführt und an einer Stelle ein natürliches Felstor zu passieren ist.
