In der Nähe von Einödsbach bei Oberstdorf liegt auf 2047 m der Rappensee in den Allgäuer Alpen. Er ist der südlichste See Deutschlands.

Der Hochgebirgssee mit einer Länge von 240 m und einer Breite von 150 m wird von zahlreichen hohen Bergen umrahmt: Der Kleine Rappenkopf (2276 m), der Hochrappenkopf (2425 m), der Rappenseekopf (2469 m) die Hochgundspitze (2460 m), die Rotgundspitze (2485 m) und der Linkerskopf (2459 m) überragen den See.

In einer Karmulde liegend entwässert der Rappensee über den Seebach in den Rappenalpbach, der mit dem Bacherlochbach zusammenfließt und schließlich die Stillach bildet. In Oberstdorf trifft die Stillach mit den beiden Bächen Trettach und Breitach zusammen; gemeinsam bilden sie den Fluss Iller, der schließlich bei Ulm in die Donau mündet.
