The Heilbronner Weg, which we hike on this stage, is probably one of the most beautiful but also physically and technically most demanding alpine high trails of the Allgäu Alps. Rocky, stony, and rugged terrain as well as the exposure of the trail require a high level of concentration, surefootedness, and a head for heights. Difficult and exposed sections are secured with steel cables. Additionally, a ladder must be overcome. The breathtaking mountain scenery and the view over the Allgäu Alps and the Lechquellen Mountains compensate for the effort. The Heilbronner Weg leads from the Rappenseehütte via the Große Steinscharte to the Wiesleskar, through the Heilbronner Törle to the Kleine Steinscharte and over the Bockkarkopf finally to the Bockkarscharte. On this section, we have two opportunities to descend to the Waltenberger Haus and thus extend the Steinbock route by one day.
