This small lake, which translates to "puddle" in High German, is located in the Allgäu Alps near the Landsberger Hut. It is named after the immediately neighboring mountain, the Lachenspitze, whose massive rock face borders the shore of the lake. A variety of hiking routes lead past the tranquil lake, among the best known of which is the
Drei-Seen-Runde, which leads past the three best-known lakes in the valley.
