Sauberes Wasser, ein schöner Sandstrand sowie ausgedehnte Spiel- und Liegewiesen für sonnenhungrige Badegäste zeichnen das in einer Parklandschaft liegende Gewässer aus.

Direkt am Hartenbergsee befindet sich auch das HunteInformationsZentrum (HIZ) - im Obergeschoss des Cafes. Das HIZ präsentiert eine Ausstellung zum Themengebiet Fließgewässer, dargestellt am Beispiel der Hunte. Schwerpunkt der Ausstellung ist der Natur- und Umweltschutz.

Darüber hinaus bietet der See Strandbad, Minigolfplatz und einen Campingplatz.
