Municipal Gallery Villa Streccius

The former residence of the royal notary Heinrich Streccius was designed in 1892 by the Karlsruhe architect Prof. Ludwig Levy. In 1935, it came into the possession of the city of Landau, which rented it to the district leadership of the NSDAP. After being vacated by the French forces, who had confiscated the villa from 1945 to 1956, the mayor's college wanted to sell the property in 1957. Fortunately, no buyer was found, and thus the Villa Streccius was dedicated to art. In July, the first art exhibition featuring works by Hermann Croissant took place. In 1960, the municipal local history museum was opened on the ground floor, while the upper floor continued to host changing art exhibitions. In 1978, the local history museum moved to the Villa Mahla in Marienring, after which both floors were available for gallery operations. The bright, light-flooded rooms have provided an ideal ambiance for the presentation of sophisticated contemporary art since a thorough renovation in 1998.
In the rear building of the villa, the former coach house, today the KUK (Art and Children) painting workshop is located, operated by the art association, which offers a wide range of courses for children, teenagers, and also adults.
