The ruins of Jelšava Castle would tell its story for a long, long time. Only parts of this smaller aristocratic residence are hidden deep in the forests of the Revúca Highlands.
In the past, the castle had several owners and went through difficult times. The first owners were the Ratold de Ilstwa family who had it built at the end of the 14th century. Subsequently, the castle suffered extensive damage due to attacks of John Jiskra troops and the Brethrens. It was not destined to become a majestic castle in the vicinity of the town of Revúca. Not much of the castle has remained. The floor plan in the form of stone subsoil is the most visible. A signed tourist path from the Jelšava Town Museum will take you to this place which used to be very busy in the past.
