The Curia Brnjakoviç is a historic Franciscan residence in Ilok, associated with the Franciscan order and its centuries-long presence in the town. It served as a residence for friars, clerical administration, and as a center for religious and cultural activities linked to the nearby St. Ivana Kapistrana Church.
Dating back to the period when the Franciscans were active in Ilok, the Curia Brnjakoviç was part of the religious and administrative infrastructure supporting the Order. The building is historically tied to the legacy of St. John of Capistrano, whose presence in Ilok during the 14th and 15th centuries elevated the town’s religious significance. Over the centuries, the Curia accommodated friars, served as a hub for clerical education and administration, and hosted events related to the church and local community. The architecture reflects traditional Franciscan design, combining functional living quarters with spaces for study and worship. Its proximity to the St. Ivana Kapistrana Church allowed the Curia to play a key role in the religious life of Ilok, especially during times of Ottoman and Habsburg influence, when the Franciscans were instrumental in maintaining Catholic traditions and local heritage.
